The Rumors.....

June 3-4: Deer Creek - Noblesville, IN
June 5-6: Alpine Valley - East Troy, WI
June 11-12: SPAC - Saratoga Springs, NY
June 15: DPAC - Darien Lake, NY

August 9-10: Town Park - Telluride, CO
August 14: Mile High Music Festival - Denver, CO
August 17: Sandstone Amphitheater - Bonner Springs, KS
__________________________________________________
Other Rumors:
Early June or September 17/18- Wrigley Field
Mid-late June - Lakewood or Alpharetta, GA
Mid-late June - Walnut Creek, NC
July 23-25 - Osage Creek Performing Arts Center, NW Arkansas
August 5-7 (2 dates) - the Gorge
August 5-8 - Paulo Soleri, New Mexico
Mid-late Auguest - Festival at Pocono Raceway, NE Pennsylvania

These rumors have been floating around the internet and Phantasytour for the past few weeks. Most notably, the Telluride rumor has been gaining steam though some wonder the ecological footprint that 5,000 raging phans would leave on the quaint mountain town.  The Osage Creek Performing Arts Center in Arkansas holds some weight. There have been murmurs from local media that Phish is being actively sought to inaugurate the new venue.  We can all expect Phish to make the standard rounds to Deer Creek & Alpine Valley. SPAC and Darien also seem like standard procedure for Phish. Can't wait for round 2 at the Gorge for Phish 3.0. Far and away the best weekend of my summer '09.
This preliminary set of rumors seems to indicate Phish is trying to integrate more shows in the southeast and west this summer. Im personally hoping that Paulo Soleri, NM becomes reality.  Seeing Phish in such an intimate venue surrounded by the spiritual ambiance all that Santa Fe has to offer would make any live show special, let alone a Phish show. The preliminary festival rumor that Phish will play Pocono Raceway seem speculative at best.  Phish is most-likely trying to finalize the summer dates and probably have not turned their attention to planning a festival yet.  But hey, its fun to hope isn't it? Thats what Phish is all about.  Please feel free to comment  with any rumors left off the list...

An Asteroid Crashed!

Ah Tube…a phan favorite, definitely in my top 5.   There is hardly a greater catalyst for a euphoric dance party then the initial licks of Tube.  When those three notes emanate over the masses, you know that a gritty funk tsunami is near- So grab your proverbial life-vest (most likely just your bag of molly), take the poll above, and lets delve deep into the tube…
On new years day of this year I woke up, face down, fully clothed (including shoes) on the floor of my ridiculously over-priced studio hotel room in South Beach.  I scan the room for evidence of what had occurred the previous night. The 9-iron, inflatable kiddy pool, garden shovel, and empty handle of Smirnoff do nothing to jog my memory. All of a sudden, I hear 2 girls moaning and look up to find the nastiest hardcore porn playing on the giant flat screen in our room.  Vague memories of my buddy Crane, molly in hand, claiming it was his destiny to order “Backdoor Whores 9”.   It was at this moment, as girl #1 was being defiled on the television, that I had an epiphany…an epiphany that turned my frustration due to a Tube-less Miami run, into a moment of sheer clarity and understanding…
The lack of Tube in Miami ’09 was most-likely a calculated move by the band, knowing all-to-well, that it would be virtually impossible to top their Tube-stravaganza of Miami ’03.  On 12.30.03, Big Red led a full-fledged funktual assault on the senses.  The over-11-minute onslaught melted every marble in my head.  Then, without returning for the last verse, the boys bust an epic U-turn, letting Tube fade into LA Woman.  I figured I just missed the end of the song due to a funk (and mushroom) induced mini-blackout.  I wouldn’t find out just how wrong I was until the next night….
Big Red kicked off New Years Eve ‘03, by emerging from the darkness with the simple phrase – “Blap Boom Ba-dep-a-boom Dep-a-boom!” (don’t judge me, that’s how I hear it in my head). I began to wonder if there was an emerging theme.  After First Tube, the boys jumped right into the conclusion of Tube. The jubilation was palpable.  I thought the place was coming down. Although anytime the boys bust-out Tube is a blessing, and there are many close seconds (see below), for me the Miami ‘03 Tube stands far above the rest.

12.07.98: Dayton, OH

Some claim this is Phish's  greatest Tube of all-time...

11.02.98: Salt Lake City, UT

Rumors of Big Red’s extensive inebriation in Vegas were all but confirmed when Trey walked off the stage during Ghost, apparently way too spun to deal with life.  Perhaps an attempt at Redemption, perhaps the result of total impulse, the band blessed phans in Salt Lake, with the now fabled, 2nd set rendition of Dark Side of the Moon. The boys kicked off this monumental show with a monumental Tube, one of the longest to date, clocking in at over 14 minutes…

4.02.98: Nassau Coliseum

This epic and storied run of shows has etched its place in Phishstory.  The boys kicked off the 1st show with an equally epic Tube.  Along with the Miami Tube, this scorcher is one of the funkiest Tubes to date…

6.18.09: Star Lake

This Tube was a welcomed release from a composition-heavy 1st set, characteristic of early Phish 3.0.  Leo is the clear MVP of this Tube, proving again that he is indeed the master of the boards…

The Phantom Lieutenant

Can somebody please confirm my reality?
Is the Treyparition just an amateur attempt at photo-shopping?
Or is there a higher power behind this Phantom ginger?

Ooom Pa Pa, Ooom Pa Pa....

It all began with a gift for my 13th birthday- Lawn Boy. This gift sparked my love affair with Phish and set me down a path rife with blackouts, molly, mushrooms, and any pharmaceutical I could get my hands on- but that’s neither here nor there.  Its what this gift represents that’s important- the beginning of my connection with the band, their music, and the freedom. Freedom of the jam, freedom from your troubles, freedom of the mind.  Its why we all see Phish- to feel that feelin’ we forgot while living out our normal lives. Phish provides an unique direction for escape- inward.  Every jam forces my mind into caverns and culverts of consciousness that were previously uncharted.  The only vehicle to get my mind to this place is Phish. I think for many this is the case.  Its bigger than the nitrous mafia in the rage cage and the spun out wook yelling “That just happened!”, repeatedly, from the row above you.  It’s a deep, spiritual connection to the band and their music that elevates the musical experience from a simple concert to an introspective journey of the self.  Surrendering to the flow…
My passion and gratitude for Phish and the role they play in my life have led me to start this blog.  I hope to provide a forum so that we can all share in the special connection that Phish provides. Posts will not all be dedicated to show reviews containing ubiquitous metaphor and simile (a la Mr. Miner). My hope is to provide a healthy mix of comedy, show recommendations and analysis to aid in the sharing of the groove.
Thanks for visiting and thank you for your patience as I work to get this site off the ground (as I hardly have the computer code knowledge required to post green text on PT- no seriously, I just learned how to do that yesterday).
